Summer is tough on car paint. UV light fades the colour, heat bakes on contaminants, and bird droppings etch fast in the sun. A little protection goes a long way.
Wash regularly and dry properly
Dust and grime hold moisture and acids against the paint. Wash every couple of weeks, and dry with a soft towel rather than letting the sun bake water spots into the finish.
Apply a wax or sealant
A layer of wax or a longer lasting sealant adds a sacrificial barrier that blocks some UV and makes contaminants easy to rinse off. Reapply through the summer as it wears.
Deal with bird droppings fast
Droppings and tree sap are acidic and etch quickly in heat. Remove them as soon as you notice, using a damp cloth so you do not grind grit into the paint.
Park smart
Shade or a cover dramatically reduces UV exposure. Even a windshield sun shade lowers the cabin and dashboard temperature, which protects the interior too.
